So with this article in hand, get on your computer and bring up www.soakworld.com. We’ll give you a quick rundown of how it all works and in no time, you’ll be meeting the other members of SOAKWorld!
Overview
SOAKWorld’s interface is similar to popular online networking sites like Friendster and myspace, so if you’re familiar with those, it should be pretty easy to figure out.
When you first hit soakworld.com, you’ll see the homepage, which shows you the newest models and members, and has a quick search function allowing you to search for other members. Clicking on any of the models’ or members’ pictures brings you to their profile page, but keep in mind, that you can’t see any pictures or message them without being logged in, so click either the “Register” link at the top right of the page, or the big “Register Now” link in the login box.
Registration
Registration is simple: fill out the fields on the registration page and hit submit. Models, make sure you select “Model” in the dropdown box labeled “I am a”, otherwise, people won’t be able to vote for you. If you have a link, enter it in the “Your Web Site” fields; they’ll be displayed on your profile page.
After you register, you’ll be sent an email with an activation link. Click on that link and you’re done! One note to mention, sometimes these emails get stuck in Spam or Junk Mail folders, so if you don’t receive it after half an hour, check your spam folder, and make sure to unblock us! If you don’t know how, contact your ISP. If not, you won’t be able to receive messages.
Overview of your page
Similar to a myspace profile page, you’ve got your profile picture on your left, along with your details and interests. Models get an additional “Stats” box. The right side of the page has your blog at the top, your bio and credits, your network, and your comments section.
Writing bio and credits
Your bio and credits tell us a little bit about you. Let us know your history, where you were born, where you’re from, and anything else you want to write. For models, photographers, writers, etc. the credits section lets you list some of your past experience.
To edit your bio and credits, click the “edit” link next to the “About Me” text. You can format your text with either bold, italics, or underline by surrounding the text with formatting tags, for example for bold, use “[B]” and “[/B]”.
These tags also let you insert images, for example, typing “[IMG]http://www.soakmag. com/images/logo3.jpg[/IMG]” inserts the Soak logo. You’ll need to include the full URL of the image, including the “http://” or else you’ll get the dreaded red X.
The text formatting and image tags are available for the Bio, Credits, Comments and Blogs sections.
Uploading pictures
When you first activate your account, your profile picture is set to a purple profile silhouette. The first thing you want to do is upload some pictures of yourself. Without a profile pic, no one will click on your page. To do so, click on the “edit” link next to the profile pic where it says “0 pictures online.” This link brings you to the image upload page.
From here, click “Browse” and click to the location on your computer where your picture file is saved. Double click on that file and hit “Submit.” Your picture will now be uploaded; the larger the file is, the longer it’ll take. Once it’s uploaded, it appears in your picture collection, where you can add a caption and photographer credit.
Once you have multiple pictures loaded, you can select whichever one you want to be your default profile pic.
Your Network
Similar to Friendster and the other networking sites, the coolest part about having a SOAKWorld account is building your personal network. You can invite anyone to your network, and once they accept, they’ll be added instantaneously.
To invite someone to your network: click on the “Add me to your network” link right under that user’s profile picture. You can type some personal invitation text, hit submit, and the user will get the invite in their email box.
If you’re invited to someone’s network, you’ll get an invite via email. That email contains a link; click on that and you’ll automatically be added to their network. You can also view any invites pending your approval by clicking on the “Pending Network” link at the top of the screen.
Writing details and interests
Your Details and Interests tell us a little more about you, and what kind of hobbies you have, music you like, etc. Click on the “edit” link next to “Details and Interests” and update the info there.
Note: Text formatting and images will not work in this section.
Writing your blog
Keep your visitors coming back to your page by updating your blog. A “blog” is short for “web log”, an online journal entry. To add an entry to your blog, click the “add entry” link next to “My Blog.” You can type anything here, and also add pictures to go along with your story by using the same [IMG] tags that we talked about in the Bio and Credits section.
Sending and viewing messages
Most of your communication with other SOAKWorld members will be through the private messaging system. The messages work kind of like email; you’ll see all your messages in your Inbox, where you can reply, forward, or delete them.
To send a message, you have two options:
1 - At the profile page of the person you want to message, click on the “Send me a message!” link. A form will pop up where you can type the text and subject of the message to send.
2 - You can send the message directly from your Inbox. Click on the “My Messages” or “Messages” link to view your message inbox. To send a new message, click “Compose New Message” to send a new message. You’ll need to know the recipient’s userid.
When you receive a message:
You’ll get an email with a link that takes you directly to that new message. Or, when you log in, click on “My Messages” or “Messages” to go to your inbox, and any new message will appear in there. From the message page, you’ll be able to reply, forward, or delete the message.
Voting
When you’re browsing through the models’ pages, you can vote for your favorite ones by clicking on the “Vote for me to be a SOAK Girl!” link. Then watch as your favorites slowly make their way into the pages of SOAK Magazine! You can only vote once.
Also, if you add the model to your “Favorites” list (by clicking on “Add me to your favorites”), it automatically votes for that model. So if you try to vote for her later and it says that you’ve already voted for her, that’s what happened.
Editing personal data
If you ever need to change your password, website, email address, etc., click on the “edit” link right under your userid on the profile page (or if you have a website, to the right of the website). Here’s the page where you can update all that info.
Musicians, comedians, actors, artists, etc.
We comb through the profiles on SOAKWorld every day to find new people to feature in the magazine. If you’re an artist or photographer, get your portfolio on there; if you’ve got a band, put up some links on your profile where we can hear some of your music. We can’t wait to check it out!
The best part of SOAKWorld? It’s being able to connect directly with the other readers, fans, and the upcoming SOAK Girls. It gives everyone a chance to get to know one another, so the next time you see the girl of your dreams in the magazine, she’s not just another pretty magazine picture; maybe you already know her, and maybe you helped put her there!
See you on the net!
